Well decommissioning is a topic of much debate. If you call 5 different drillers, you will likely get 5 different opinions about removal methods and requirements. We have summarized our interpretation of what is required, based on the actual regulation (903) and the Best Practices Manual. The most common misconception is that the well is the PVC pipe in the ground – wrong. The well is the entire borehole created by the drilling process. This is important because when the requirements refer to removing the well, it is not referring to the PVC, it refers to all contents of the borehole.
