A Good Start

Most drilling rigs are large and heavy. Ours are not. We use rubber tracks or tires. We can get into tight spaces. And our rigs do less damage to your property.

Small, low-impact drilling is our specialization. 

Utility Locates

Before our work starts, buried gas, electrical, water and other utility lines have to be marked. The markings are water soluble paint that eventually washes off. Utility locates protect the lives of our people, they help avoid damage to your property – and it’s against the law to drill without them. We would appreciate it if you would, 

• Allow the locator to access the electrical/utility room and any indoor drilling areas 
• Provide any drawings you have that show buried utility lines.

Start Times

Our crews usually have a lot of work to pack into the day – we start early! If you have to be there to unlock doors or gates, please be on time.

Vehicles, Parking and Unloading

We do great work but we charge by the hour – let’s spend your budget on drilling, not on waiting around for someone to find car keys.

• Please clear vehicles and materials from the work areas long before we get there. 
• Please allow space to park our drill truck for the day – our trucks look like 35ft long moving vans.

Drilling Safety and You

Our drills are small and dangerous. NEVER walk up to the drill area uninvited.

If you need to talk with us, look for your consultant or engineer and – standing well away from the work area – attract attention by waving. It’s against Ontario law to be in the drill area without the appropriate safety equipment. It’s dangerous to you. And it’s dangerous to our staff, who could be distracted while trying to protect you. 

If there will be children, vulnerable persons or animals on your property, tell your consultant or engineer in advance. 

Noise, Fumes, Mud and Water 

In spite of our best efforts, drilling gets a little noisy and a little messy.

• Most of our drill engines make noise and fumes like a small farm tractor.

• The engine could be 100 feet from the hole, connected by hoses through the building.

• Soil and possibly water will be coming up – making the area dirty and muddy.

Our crew will clean up – we shovel soil into steel drums, we squeegee the water and we might have to sweep – but it’s a quick cleanup. We don’t usually wash down asphalt or mop floors. It’s not that we don’t care – it just isn’t cost efficient to use a drilling crew for meticulous cleaning.

Drilling Cuttings

There may be some waste soil left over from the drilling – it’s called “cuttings”. We often store the cuttings in steel drums. Once the drums are filled they will be too heavy to move, so we try to put them someplace that won’t be in your way.

If you have particular concerns about where the cuttings drums should be stored, discuss them with your consultant or engineer.

Water Wells

If we have been booked to install groundwater wells at your property, we usually protect them inside tall steel boxes, or beneath circular metal caps at ground surface. For most situations with multiple well installs, Ontario law requires that we obtain the owner’s signature to prove we told you that we installed more than one.
